With the motivation and encouragement given by the President of India, a meeting of the leading representatives from the Herbal Industries and the Scientific Community was convened on February 4, 2004 at New Delhi, in which a Taskforce was formed comprising of representatives of the government, the Industry and the Scientific Community, with the overall objective of strengthening the partnership between Government and Industry and the Scientific Community to project, promote and protect the traditional herbal healthcare systems and products. During the deliberations, the need for an exclusive Federation of Indian Herbal Industry which will serve as a platform for all the stake holders to meet, discuss and work together, providing guidelines and directions, and facilitating cohesive thinking and coordinated efforts, was keenly felt.

As decided at the meeting of representatives from government, Industry and the Scientific Community on February 28, 2004, the Federation of Indian Herbal Industry (FIHI) was formed with its Headquarters at Chennai with the blessings of Pujya Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal, Sankaracharyas of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham and H.E. Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, President of India. FIHI is a non-profitable service organization whose objective is to promote Indian traditional healthcare delivery system and products at global and national level.
